It's Pollen Season!

Our cars, outdoor kitchen counter, and pool have been covered with pollen over the last week or so. Looks like it is here to stay for a while. Below are a few tips to help keep your pool clear and healthy during this season.

• It is recommended that you skim the pollen off the top of your pool with a net. This reduces the amount of pollen that makes its way into your filter.
• Make sure your pump is running 8-10 hours a day so that the water is circulating. This is the only way the pollen (that didn’t get skimmed off the surface) will be pulled into the skimmers, where it will make its way through the system and hopefully be caught in the filter. We’ll keep an eye on your filter pressure, but don’t be surprised if it increases during this time of year and needs to be cleaned due to the increase in “stuff” that it is having to work to clear from your pool water.
• If the pollen is not skimmed from the surface or able to make its way to the skimmers and into the filter, it will eventually soak up enough water that it sinks to the bottom of your pool. Once this happens, the pool will have a greenish/yellow look. From the surface, this will look like algae once it settles. If, when you brush it, it forms a cloud in the water; it’s just pollen. Frequent brushing will stir it up so that it can makes way to the filter.

Aside from making the pool look bad, pollen can also cause problems with your water chemistry which can lead to other issues.
